The Light Development Holiday Library is a Java class library that models any
kind of
holiday
as an event in the gregorian calendar system. It simplifies
the high complexity of holiday definition by matching all different holiday classes
against the same single common interface taking away the need to know
about each and every detail of computation, calendar systems and algorithms.
Most major types and calendars supported
The library models different holiday classes over the
gregorian,
julian,
islamic,
hindu,
hebrew and
chinese
calendar systems.
The combination of classes (i.e. computation methods) and calendar systems
models holidays observerd by the majority of world population.
Additional support for Persian and Coptic calendar systems and holidays is in
preparation, making the Holiday Library the most comprehensive and common tool for
modeling and occurence determination of holidays.
Simple integration, high scalability
The library can easily be incorporated in various applications, let it be local standalone applications,
server based online or web applications and complex integrated systems too. It serves to end user
functionality and for backend purposes scaling perfectly from mobile via desktop to server and host
environments.
Live example
A live example for application of the holiday library is the Light Development
World Holiday Calendar. It utilizes a relational
database with all kinds of holiday information and combines this with occurrence computation based on
the holiday library to produce a calendar for arbitrary months and years.
