About Java Web Start
Using Java Web Start technology, standalone Java software applications can be deployed
with a single click over the network. Java Web Start ensures the most current version of
the application will be deployed, as well as the correct version of the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE)
For more information about Java Web Start please see
http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/index.jsp
Requirements
To use a software with Java Web Start a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is required on the
local machine. The JRE can be obtained free of charge at
http://www.java.com
Security
To launch or install software over the internet may be a security risk which is why
Java Web Start requires software to be signed with a code signing certificate. When a
software is launched a message is shown whether or not that software is signed and can
be trusted.

Web Start at LightDev
Most open source projects at Light Development support Java Web Start. A Web Start Me Now
button is shown on the home page of such projects. The
downloads section
has an overview of web started projects too.
Security
All web started software at Light Development is selfsigned. That
means the code is signed by the author and not by an independent trusted
authority.
In other words, you need to trust me ;-)
